If you walk north of Oxford Street along Tottenham Court Road, we’re about 100 yards up on the left (so almost on top of the new Crossrail station). The entrance is just off the main drag in a building that has just been fully refurbished by Derwent London. ORMS architects have created a stunning re-design of the building, with particular emphasis on the ground floor, articulated with a blade and ribbon concept. Tucked round the back of Charlotte Street and almost on top of Tottenham Court Road. "Fitzrovia", the informal name for the area between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street’s eastern end, became famous in the 1940s as a raffish zone, popular with carousers like the poet Dylan Thomas. Now it’s a charming district that’s once more on the rise, with art galleries and fashion businesses vying for locations – and it’s set to grow yet further when Crossrail opens its Tottenham Court Road hub. Charlotte Street is its centre, full of restaurants: have a cocktail in the Charlotte Street Hotel’s Oscar Bar. Further north you’ll find that fabulous oddity the BT Tower, while in Tottenham Court Road plenty of browsing opportunities await.
